Full Mouth Renovation: New Reconstructions on Existing Implants
Time: 1:05 PM, September 12, 2026
Speaker: Dr. Julie Mitchell
As the patient ages, it is possible that dental implant fixtures that are well-integrated and healthy will be restored two or three times over the patient’s lifetime. The modern restorative clinician must be able to efficiently and effectively integrate existing dental implant fixtures into new treatment plans to avoid unnecessary surgery or cost to the patient. To do this, a strong understanding of abutment and prosthetic design is necessary. We will review cases and principles for removing existing implant prosthetics and re-restoring dental implants, and explore insights into how new dental implants might be useful for future work.
Learning objectives:
- Reasonable timelines and expectations for both anterior esthetic cases and full-mouth reconstructions when treating existing dental implants.
- To identify situations where periodontal surgery and/or explanation should be discussed with the patient, even if the implant is healthy.
- How prosthetic design can manage esthetic and hygiene problems related to existing dental implants.
