How to Go Analog with Virtual Articulation
Time: 1:45 PM, September 11, 2026
Speaker: Dr. Seth Atkins
The end result of digital dentistry is analog. This lecture explores fundamentals and advanced techniques of programming the virtual articulator within modern dental CAD/CAM systems. Participants will learn how to accurately transfer patient-specific jaw dynamics, occlusal parameters, and mandibular movements into digital workflows for enhanced diagnostic and restorative outcomes. In addition, methods to ensure cross compatibility between analog and digital instruments will be demonstrated, with the goal of facilitating a seamless transition between the analog and digital worlds. This session will highlight the importance of articulator settings, the role of digital facebows, and strategies to minimize analog occlusal adjustments post-fabrication. This presentation is intended for prosthodontists, restorative dentists, and dental technicians aiming to elevate precision in digital occlusion planning.
Learning objectives:
- Participants will learn both fundamental and advanced techniques of programming the virtual articulator within modern dental CAD/CAM systems.
- Methods to seamlessly transfer between the virtual and analog worlds.
- Methods to accurately transfer patient-specific jaw dynamics, occlusal parameters, and mandibular movements into digital workflows for enhanced diagnostic and restorative outcomes.
